The Team

Woody-PTD Coordinator

Nathan Woodruff is the founder of PTD and the overall project coordinator. With a background in downhill racing and freeride mountain biking, Woody specializes in the design of freeride parks and trails. He was one of the primary founders of the Arkansas DH Series, starting in Devils Den State Park in 2003. Also, he was the sole designer of the newly constructed Slaughter Pen Freeride Park. His landscape business is in its 7th year and has aided in putting him all the way through graduate school at the U of A. With his extensive knowledge of landscaping and progressive mountain biking, Woody brings the combination of challenge and aesthetic appeal to the trail.

He worked four years as a Water Quality Technician for the Washington County Conservation District and is currently the Arkansas Representative for the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA). Don wrote and published, “Mountain Biking Northern Arkansas” and “Devil’s Den Multi-Use Trail Map.” For more information about his products and services, go to www.butterfieldpublishing.com.

Chris Crone-Master Carpenter/Machine Operator

As a third generation homesteader, Chris’s skills are undeniable. He is probably the most diversely talented individual the team boasts when it comes to construction. Equally at home on machines, doing carpentry or landscaping, his attention to detail ensures our projects have the finishing touches that define "classy". When he and Dave put their heads together on a project, (both Virgo's with the same birthday), the chips fly and the job gets done...fast and right. A great all around guy to be around he projects a real human touch in his work.

  • Experience
  • Owner; Christopher John’s Building and Home Repair (2001-present)
  • Master Carpenter
  • Bridge design and construction; Devils Den State Park

Joe Quam-Master Stunt Builder

Joe “Guinea Pig” Quam is probably the most ambitious member of the team. He has a background in BMX and is a 4th generation home builder. The combination of his carpentry skills and freestyle bike skills has earned him the title “Master Stunt Builder”. This guy can build any skate park style ramp or stunt imaginable, and he is always the first to test them out. Along with Chris Crone, Joe played in integral role in the design and construction of all the wood features at the Slaughter Pen Freeride Park. Keep an eye out for this guy in the freeride MTB scene!

Ross McMaster-Pro Rider/Slopestyle Course Designer

In 2003 we went on our annual MTB trip to Whistler, BC… Ross never left. Three years later he competed in the biggest freestyle MTB competition in the world (Crankworx, Whistler). He placed 12th, earning him recognition on a worldwide level and full sponsorship. Ross is an Arkansas native and was a pro trials rider back in the late 90's (competed in the Worlds in 2000 & 2001). Ross fills the role as our competitive course designer or freeride course designer. This is the guy we fly in for the big jobs. He is on the cutting edge of the freestyle MTB scene and has extensive experience in progressive trail building from his 3 years living and working at Whistler Bike Park.

Dave Renko – Consultant/Wood & Stone Specialist

Dave Renko is one of the most recognizable faces and names associated with Arkansas trail building. Extensive work as an advocate, volunteer leader, project organizer, writer and public speaker make him one of our most valued assets. Plus he has probably built more single track by hand than all of us put together. His experience dealing with land management agencies and bureaucracy also set him apart. If you don't know him by his trail work you might recognize him as the sax player for Arkansas' "favorite sons", the Cate Brothers.
