Double Lake Trail Expansion

Location: Coldspring, TX

Type: Multi-Use Trail System. Non-motorized

Length: 10 Miles

Construction Period: Fall 2010

PTD teamed up with S&S Trail Services to build an additional 10 miles to the existing 10 mile trail system in the Double Lake Recreation Area, Sam Houston National Forest. There are many mountain bike racing events held here annually. One of the more popular events held there is aptly named "The Big Ring Challenge". It is all mostly full-throttle singletrack. However, the new trail that we built does have a more distinct flow character. Since we are seemingly incapable of building straight lines, the new addition has more of an undulating, meandering feel. This will provide a little challenge and change of pace from the old stuff, but steel retaining the speed the Texans love. Thanks to the Greater Houston Off Road Bicycling Association for making this happen!!!

Location: Eureka Springs, AR

Type: DH Flow/Jump Trail. Non-motorized, MTB Specific

Length: 1 mile

Construction Period: Summer 2009

A whistler-inspired, rhythm and flow oriented PTD creation in Arkansas! I would venture to say that this is one of our best creations yet. We have scratched the original 1/2mile of fire road for a 1/2mile of super- flowy, stunt-laden singletrack. This will make the whole trail a little over 1 mile of custom built DH trail. Every TTF on the entire course is signed according to difficulty level and type of feature. This is a course for all skill levels. It will definitely test your skills and will keep you coming back for more Big thanks to the City of Eureka!

Boys and Girls Town Trails

Location: Steelville, MO

Type: Single Track Beginner Trail System. Non-motorized, MTB Specific

Length: 1 mile

Construction Period: Spring 2009

This was a very gratifying project we were able to do for the Boys and Girls Town, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with emotional and behavioral problems through superior, family-focused services. It was a very educational and humbling experience to work with the kids and inspire them to help us build trail and ride it. We want to thank all of the faculty for providing us with unbelievable accommodations and an incredible trail care crew. All the kids deserve a pat on the back! We will be back to build more trail and do a riding clinic. After this great experience we have decided that after every big trail project that we complete we will take some time out to give back through building trail and/or holding riding clinics for organizations like this who are making a real change.

Cane Hill Trails

Location: Stockton, MO

Type: Single Track Trail System. Non-motorized, MTB Specific

Length:

Construction Period: Winter 2009

This was a unique little project on private land near Lake Stockton in southwest Missouri. The trail sets on a 70ac plot of mellow rolling terrain infested with locust from recent logging and neglect…may not sound like the ideal location for singletrack. Needless to say, we were a little skeptical of whether or not a trail could be or should be applied to this landscape, given the amount of thorny locust trees, undergrowth, and lack of any substantial features or “positive control points”. But with our client’s ambition and our enthusiasm to simply build trail, we fired the saws and moved forward, cutting through the thorn entangled madness. Thankfully, persistence and confidence outweighed our refrain. This trail is proof that sweet singletrack can be built anywhere! In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is one of the best designed trail’s we have built! Stay tuned, this trail will eventually be part of a greater vision by the landowner as a private getaway for mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiast!

Devils Den State Park Trail Renovations

Location: Winslow, AR

Type: Hiking Trail. Non-motorized, Hikers Specific

Length:

Construction Period: Winter 2009

This is a CCC renovation project that we worked on over the winter of 2008/09. We were hired by Devils Den State Park to do some renovation work on the “Devils Den Trail” and the “Yellow Rock Trail”. These 2 trails see over 100,000 hikers per year and there were some poorly designed sections where the trails were aligned straight down the fall line (direction water flows down slope) , so needless to say, they had been washed out and abused. The answer: stairs, lots of native stone. We excavated all the stone from the surrounding area and constructed multiple staircases. This kind of work will give you a new appreciation for some of America’s original trailbuilders (the CCC).

Devils Den Hiking Trail

Location: Winslow, AR

Type: Hiking Trail

Length:

Construction Period: Winter 2007

This flagship hiking only namesake trail at one of Arkansas’ busiest state parks is frequented by nearly 100,000 users a year. Dave Renko and Chris Crone where hired to do drainage work, revegetation and unwanted trail obliteration on the entire trail. They also replaced a 36-foot long walking bridge with a 14-foot high trestle. Several WPA stone staircases were rebuilt along with some creative turnpike work. Tough access and inclement weather added to the challenge. More efforts to rebuff the trail are in the works for 2008.
